Site description
Redondo's dive site is built around a working research facility, not just a pier — the structure at its center belongs to Highline College's MaST Center, which has run flow-through saltwater aquariums and marine-science programs here since the 2000s and still opens free to the public most Saturdays. Divers exploring the pilings and the small wrecks scattered in the trough below share the water with a local celebrity: the City of Des Moines has officially proclaimed the area the “Sixgill Shark Capital of the World,” with an annual Sixgill Shark Day to mark it. It's a mild-current, beginner-friendly site with a genuine research station standing over it.
Not a navigational chart. Positions are drawn illustratively from pnwdiving.com's site briefing over a real satellite still (Web Mercator, true scale) — good for orientation and dive-brief planning, not for plotting a GPS track. Features move; confirm on site. The Redondo River's bursty currents are a local anomaly this chart and the conditions model can't predict — see the site's conditions page.
